Only 2 more days until California Art Club’s “Welcome to California” exhibition! Featuring over 300 small works of the land and lifestyle of the Golden State, it’s perfect for “arm chair” traveling this holiday weekend. The show unveils on Artist’s Sunday at www.californiaartclub.org. There’s lots to see—and share—especially for those who haven’t been able to travel in a while. Take a look and let me know your favorites! (It’s truly the land of plenty - betcha can’t pick just one!)
A year ago I would have scoffed at the idea of passive travel - other than through the pages of a book. This year my perspective has changed. Having come through the unintended rollercoaster ride of 2020, I am newly appreciative of the opportunity to nest, to consciously place hope and dreams and goals directly in in front of me, and the gifts that come back to me when I encourage others to do the same. I may be sitting in a chair now… but I’ll be ready when more active adventures are within reach.
2020 has also been a year of incredible challenge for any and all creative types. Postponed or cancelled shows and events, shuttered galleries, rented studios unavailable for use while rent is still charged, and art enthusiasts who understandably choose to shelter at home are just a few of the professional hurdles thrown at them. We have learned, as many others have, that we need to adapt professionally and provide opportunities for patrons to engage remotely. We have learned what a pleasure it is to stay connected virtually, just for the sake of community. And we have learned, albeit reluctantly, how new art and creativity is born of hardship and the need to problem solve.
Artists’ Sunday, falling between today, Small Business Saturday® and Cyber Monday, is a nationwide movement to breathe life into the arts by encouraging consumers to shop with artists and crafts(wo)men for unique and special gifts this holiday season. We appreciate all connections we get to make with you, even the arm chair dreaming. It’s our pleasure to provide the material to inspire you.
See below for Camellia Confetti, a sweet little piece of California street art that I am fortunate enough to have in this show, and the arm chair you could be traveling from while you dream 💭😉 .
